El Sardine Run representa una experiencia espectacular y desafiante que no tiene parangón en el mundo submarino. La migración de millones de sardinas plateadas (Sardinops Sagax) tiene lugar en el sureste del continente africano durante los meses invernales sudafricanos de junio y julio cuando siguen la corriente fría ascendente a lo largo de la llamada Costa Salvaje para desovar en las cálidas aguas de KwaZulu Natal. Constituye la mayor migración del mundo en número de animales. Los cardúmenes de sardinas pueden llegar a medir más de 7 km. y 60 m. de profundidad, atrayendo a todo tipo de depredadores y grandes especies aéreas (alcatraces, albatros) y marinas como el tiburón cobrizo (Carcharhinus brachyurus), el tiburón toro (Carcharias taurus), el tiburón de puntas negras (Carcharhinus limbatus), el tiburón arenero (Carcharhinus obscurus), orcas (Orcinus orca), delfines (Delphinus capensis), el delfín del Indo-Pacífico (Tursiops aduncus) y ballenas, en especial, la ballena gigante de Bryde (Balaenoptera Edeni).
